Screw conveyors (augers)
These conveyors are commonly used for transportation of dust, powdery and sometimes small lump bulk cargoes to rather short distances (usually up to 40 m at horizontal surface and up to 30 m – at vertical one) with common productivity of 100 ton/h in the chemical and flour-grinding industries and at the building materials factories. It is not reasonable to transport sticky, easily condensed and abrasive loads with the screw conveyors. Advantages of the screw conveyors are its simple structure, easy-to-maintain, small overall dimensions, convenient of in-between unloading, leak tightness that is especially important at transportation of dust, hot and odorant loads.¬ Disadvantages of the screw conveyors are high power consumption, considerable fraying and crushing of the loads, raised deterioration of the screw and chute connected with the way of transportation. Screw conveyors are sensitivity to overloads that can lead to loads clustering inside the chute (especially at intermediate bearings). |
